Valuing value in an era of deeper, problem-solving, cross-sector collaborations

Thursday, February 27, 2020

This Breakfast Dialogue session which is being kindly hosted by Walgreens Boots Alliance, will be co-led by Rohan Hewavisenti, Finance & Corporate Services Director at the NHS Confederation* and Richard Ellis, VP, Global Corporate Responsibility, Walgreen Boots Alliance** and moderated by Manny Amadi, C&E’s CEO.

Risk, opportunity and values-based drivers are speeding up and increasing convergence between the corporate and non-profit sectors. As companies increasingly seek to place societal purpose at the heart of business & brand strategy and practice in the pursuit of sustainable growth, resource-constrained non-profits are increasingly seeking more effective ways to deliver their social and environmental missions at greater scale.

At this Breakfast Dialogue we will focus on exploring and addressing the challenges of assessing the ‘full value’ (non-financial and financial) that derive from cross-sector collaboration. The session will address:

  • Growth, return on capital, and risk management have been identified as broad value-creation levers for companies engaging in the sustainable business agenda: What key lessons and insights have been derived from years of attempting to assess  value in these areas – particularly in relation to partnering with non-profits?
  • Impact, Influence, and Income are typical value-creation levers for non-profits: How can existing thinking regarding each of these levers be extended into models for helping non-profits to more fully understand and appropriately account for the net difference that engagement with their partner companies makes to delivery of the NGOs’ companies’ social and environmental mission?
  • More generally, what can companies and NGOs learn from how each sector defines and values value?

These and related questions will be addressed at the session on 27th February.
